WHAT IS DIRFLOORTIME?
Floortime is an approach used to promote an individual's development through a respectful, playful, joyful, and engaging process. It uses the power of relationships and human connection to encourage the development of the capacities for self-regulation, engagement, communication, shared social problem solving, and creative, organized, and reflective thinking and reasoning. It is based on the DIR® model for human development. It is used worldwide by teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, mental health professionals, parents, and many others that are caring for individuals with developmental challenges or other related needs. It is an evidence-based approach to promoting human development that is used with individuals of all ages...especially children on the autism spectrum.
DIRFloortime is a comprehensive, evidence-based therapy approach for guiding intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental challenges. DIR stands for the Developmental, Individual-differences, & Relationship-based model.
Private DIRFloortime Sessions
One-hour private Floortime sessions with Occupational Therapist, Holly Hansen or Child Development Specialist, Gwenn DeCicco.
We will focus on your child’s regulation, engagement and two-way verbal/nonverbal communication. We will meet your child where they are and support them to reach higher developmental capacities through a myriad of DIRFloortime strategies.
Mommy/Daddy & Me DIRFloortime Group Sessions
(with your 20-36 month old child)
Each week we will discuss and model a different DIRFloortime strategy. You will practice these strategies with your toddler with the support of Holly Hansen, Occupational Therapist and Gwenn DeCicco, Child Development Specialist.
In addition, these small groups will facilitate:
• Identifying your child’s strengths
• Reciprocal play
• Regulation/engagement
• Identifying sensory profiles
• Social awareness
